In the rear view

I watched you sleep in the rear view—
Those eyes, shut against the morning
You did not want to face
Sharp sun highlighting fuzz on
Peach skin
Eyes widened by their closing and underlined
With swinging lashes.

Golden spots speak

Though your mouth is closed, as rarely happens.
Red lights and tail lights give me grace
To see you again. There, smiling
In your slumber on the way to a day
Of numbers of lines of rhymes.
There, to face full-on a myriad of voices
All subtler than yours.

And this rear view will carry me
Through a day I, not wanting to face,
Will.
