Juju’s rag curls, part 1

mypicture_2_5.jpgJulianne has Constitution Day tomorrow. She spent a few nights reading about her assigned delegate, William Livingston, and creating her first report. She loved the process and wanted to keep drawing more and more pictures about his life. Her skill and humorous renditions actually surprised me. She plans on telling her class that she thinks he probably carved a pumpkin and named it “Will.” On the picture of William as the chairman of a committee, she had the other delegates saying in bubbles, “I think this guy is right,” and “Goo! Just get on with it!” and I really have no idea what she means by GOO.

We wrangled enough strange pieces from Goodwill to create a costume. I wasn’t about to make one for this and then turn around to finish sewing her Princess Jasmine for Halloween. Anyway, when it came to her hair, I thought of a cap or maybe just putting a ribbon in it. But I realized that I could curl her hair. So, tonight, I ventured to do rag curls.

I had no idea where to start, and my mom didn’t know for sure either. Good ol’ google came through. All I can say after having done the whole head, is that a video tutorial on wrapping hair around the cloth and then tying it would be helpful. I ended up using my teeth. Glad none of you were around to watch.

We’ll see how it turns out tomorrow. I’ll take pics of her oral report and her costume, etc. In case I try to wrap her hair again, feel free to add suggestions for better wrapping.

So did you find the costume? The curls look adorable and that wasn’t even the finished product. What a cutie!

That one picture with her mouth wide open is the spitting image of you Linda, down to the freckle pattern sprinkled across her nose and cheeks! In fact, I can almost picture a specific Christmas picture of you in your pajamas when you have the same exact expression on your face. Or remember the pictures from our first family vacation to Bryce/Zion canyon when you are bending down with the squirrels? It would be fun to compare those pics side-by-side. She is definitely her mother’s daughter.

Yes, Michelle, that’s what I thought. I remember a picture of me at about 7 in a white and green terrycloth short outfit, super long straight hair, with that same rascally expression on my face. She’s smarter than I was, though.
